Readers for Readers: A Fundraising Collaboration with DebbieDoesBooks

Support can manifest in a multitude of ways. The most obvious is often financial but sometimes, it’s vocal engagement and interaction. Sometimes, in the case of my friendship with DebbieDoesBooks, it’s both.

As I’m sure you’ve gleaned from her name, Debbie is a book-lover and often expresses that love via vlogging. A self-described “multi genre heaux,” her tastes are vast and run the gamut from classic literature to horror to time-traveling romance to urban fantasy YA and everything in between. She’s not one to follow a bookstagram/booktube/booktok trend just for the sake of it, nor is she afraid to mark something as “DNF.” I love watching her book reviews because they’re so genuine and energetic. Her ethos really shines through her work:

I firmly believe that everyone can love to read. It is simply a matter of helping someone see how amazing books are. Fiction or nonfiction, it’s all amazing. Not everyone has the luxury or access to it and my hope is to help as many people as I can see the beauty in the literary.

She’s also been one of the most supportive people I’ve met in both my business journey and in life tbh. She always makes an effort to let me know how a tarotscope or personal reading lands both on the blog and in my YouTube comments. And I cannot begin to express how grateful I am when she allows me to share a business or branding idea that’s popped into my head whenever the thought strikes. She reminds me that this work is worthwhile.

So I want to help make her goals a reality too.

Fundraising Collaboration

Earlier this summer, Debbie and her sister attended the Imaginarium Book Festival. You can see her haul and learn about her experience on her recent vlog:

While I’ve never been to a book festival, I’ve gone to a handful for music, games, and art, and I just love the energy that comes from people celebrating together. Four of Wands realness, ya know?

So I want to help her and her sister make that happen in 2025. Debbie currently has a goal for this very purpose on her Ko-Fi and to help her reach it, I’m offering my card-slinging skills to her supporters and community.

How it Works

For those who want to send her financial support so she reaches her goal, the process is fairly straightforward on your end:

  • Donate (any amount) to Debbie’s Ko-Fi.
  • You’ll receive an auto “thank you” message with a link to a Google form (so you’re not beholden to getting a reading if you don’t want one).
  • The form is short: all I require is your name, pronouns, and email (which is where I’ll send the reading!) There’s a spot for astrology/human design info but it’s optional! It helps inform the work but isn’t essential for it.
  • The reading will be a random pull, about 250 words (but anyone who’s gotten a reading from me before know it’s likely to be longer!), and delivered as a PDF with the image of the card attached, via email.
  • That’s it!

For transparency, the information from the Google form goes directly into a Google Sheet which I share with Debbie, so we can keep track of who’s requested and received a reading. Since all the financial stuff is handled via PayPal (as is the case with all Ko-Fi transactions- unless the creator also uses Stripe), all of that is hidden from me, so no one has to worry about that. And your email will not be used to go on any lists!

About the Deck

Now, I wouldn’t use just any ol’ deck for my literary-lovin’ friend and her fellow bookworms. For thematic purposes, I’ve chosen “The Literary Tarot” by the Brink Literacy Project, which I debuted on this platform earlier this month, for the New Moon in Cancer tarotscopes. It’s a beautiful deck with diverse imagery; it covers everything from Pride & Prejudice to Sherlock Holmes to Carmilla! Even if you’re not particularly “needing” a tarot reading on your current state of mind or situation, it’s just fun to see what card and related story you get.

Here are some more images of the cards:

This isn’t a deck I get to use very much (by no fault of the deck, I just have others I keep turning and returning to!), and it’s for that reason why I’m excited for this project. If you were thinking “well, what’s in it for her???”, that’s your answer. I get to spend more time with my collection! And, I get to give back to her in ways that go beyond my current financial means. I like supporting my friends in their endeavors.

In Summary

Help me help my friend (and her sister!) attend Imaginarium Book Festival 2025! When you donate to her Ko-Fi goal (at any amount!), I will pull a card from “The Literary Tarot” deck just for you. The reading will be be about 250+ words and sent directly to your inbox (an image of the card will be included)! Once she hits her goal, this fundraising collab will be done!
